Habib Oloya’s first-half header was enough for St. Mary’s Kitende SS to win their 11th National Football Championship title.
The Entebbe road football powerhouse defeated St. Henry’s College Kitovu 1-0 in a final held at Nyakasura, Fort Portal.
This was the second meeting for the two schools in this tournament as Kitovu beat Kitende 2-1 in the group stages.
Abubakali Walusimbi nearly scored in the early stages but his powerful shot was saved by Kitovu’s goalkeeper Marvin Ssebirango.
Kitende’s Samuel Lukoye almost scored but his long ball was denied by the crossbar with the keeper well beaten.
Just like in the semifinal against Amus College, Kitende scored off a long throw-in which Oloya headed home to clinch the title.
From that moment, the defending champions controlled the game till to the final whistle to make it three titles in three consecutive years.
Meanwhile, in the first game of the day, Royal Giant High School thrashed Amus College 4-2 in the third playoff game.
Amus College’s talisman Allan Oyirwoth was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Kitende’s forward Abdul Nsereko won the golden boot with 11 goals while Royal Giant custodian Shamran Kamya (six clean sheets) went home with the golden glove.
Champions Kitende, Kitovu, Royal Giant, and Kibuli will represent Uganda in the FEASSSA (East Africa) games to be held in Huye, Rwanda.
