Home Motorsport National Rally returns to Northern Uganda after 15 years

The Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has strategically distributed the 2024 National Rally Championship events (NRC) to run across the various regions of the country.

This is in compliance with the new National Sports law 2023 that was enacted by government, mandating national bodies to hold sports activities in at least 75 percent of the districts in Uganda.

According to FMU, the move is not only aimed at meeting the legal requirements but also encouraging and promoting a culture of local domestic tourism of exploring Uganda through sports activities.

Central Motor Club is taking the initiative to organise the penultimate round of the much heated-up National rally championship in Gulu on the Independence weekend of 11th to 13th October 2024.

“The event is named after Uganda’s Independence, thus Central Motor Club deciding to give Ugandans and particularly our rally fraternity, an unforgettable domestic tourism experience in the North,” read part of the press release.

It’s nearly 15 years since Gulu last had a motor rally event experience which was organised by Motorsport Africa Club (MOSAC) and this explains the thirst from both the local crowd and the travellers.

Early preparations

Cognizant of the distance from Kampala to Gulu for both the competitors and the organiser, Central Motor Club and FMU are striving hard to make sure the competitors have incentives.

The plan is to have them receive free fuel or accommodation to ease on their expenditure budgets, while not forgetting other departments like officiation, technical, and some other logistical support to the event.

For now, the route and stages have already been earmarked, with furthest details to competitors shall be availed through subsequent bulletins that the Club will issue.

Since FMU is taking close to a billion shilling sports activity to Gulu (this counts down from crew’s preparations, event organization, fans travel and stay expense all together); they are hopeful of a helping hand.

“We expect Government and the leading impacted industries/brands/services to come onboard to support the event as they target to benefit while they exploit the advantages associated with the event.”
