Rwanda defeated Uganda by 6 wickets in the final of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament on Saturday, claiming their first title in the competition.
The hosts, who had never beaten Uganda in any form of cricket before, restricted the Pearls to 65 all out in their 20 overs.
Gisele Ishimwe top scored for Rwanda with 13, while Phionah Kulume took 2 wickets for 11.
In reply, Rwanda chased down the target with 14 balls to spare, thanks to an unbeaten 17 from Uwase Mervielle.
The victory is a major boost for Rwandan cricket, and will give them confidence ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup Qualifiers.
Uganda, meanwhile, will be disappointed to have lost their unbeaten record in the tournament.
Nonetheless they will still be considered one of the favorites to win the Africa Cup Qualifiers.
