The national beach volleyball resumed with the National Beach Volleyball Open over the weekend at their new venue King’s Park Arena, Bweyogerere.
The double gender Open was under the patronage of Uganda Volleyball Federation National Beach Volleyball Tour 2021/2022 season.
With two courts in place, teams from both genders had to fight wind, sun and skills from their respective opponents on a challenging playing surface.
In the men’s finals, the experience of Daudi Okello and Mathew Mwenyi was too much for Bosco Thembo and Emmanuel Mululi whom forced a decisive set but still, lost the match 2-1.
On the other court, young blood in Esther Tumwebaze and Diana Assimwe stopped an experienced side in Peace Busingye and Margaret Namyalo.
After going down 14-25 in the first set, many wrote them off but their resistance paid off with two big sets hence being crowned as the queens of the sand.
Uganda Volleyball Federation president Sadik Nasiwu graced day two which had the quarterfinals, semis and finals. After a long day, he did the honour of handing over medals and trophies.
Beach volleyball will take a one week’s break before resumption again at the improvised King’s Park Arena, Bweyogerere still.
