Tunisia have appointed Hervé Renard as their new head coach after dismissing Sabri Lamouchi just one game into the FIFA World Cup.

The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed the appointment on Tuesday briefly after handing Mondher Kebaier briefly on interim basis. The Frenchman set to lead the Carthage Eagles until the end of the tournament.

Renard arrives with a wealth of international experience and a strong track record on the biggest stages. He guided Morocco to the 2018 World Cup, their first appearance at the tournament since 1998, and later led Saudi Arabia to a famous 2-1 victory over eventual champions Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 57-year-old also managed France at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where he steered the team to the quarter-finals.

Renard is especially renowned for his success in Africa. He led Zambia to a historic Africa Cup of Nations title in 2012 before repeating the feat with Ivory Coast in 2015, becoming the first coach to win the tournament with two different nations.
