Uganda has been chosen as one of the 15 countries that will compete at the second edition of the Street Child Cricket World Cup that bowls off on 22nd September in Chennai India.
Dubbed the Street 20, the Street Child World Cup is aimed at giving street children a fair chance in life.
The theme this year is aimed at not only showcasing the talent of these kids, but also ensuring that the children are aware of what’s happening in their surroundings both socially and culturally.

A total of 15 countries including Bangladesh, Brazil, Burundi, England, Hungary, Mauritius, Mexico, Nepal, Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe and hosts India will compete at this extraordinary event.
As a prerequisite, each participating team is required to have eight players- four boys and as many girls.
As such, Uganda has sent Aziz Tandia, Ali Balidawa, Jonathan Nyiro, Gerald Olipa, Malisa Ariokot, Lorna Anyait, Agnes Nakakande and Naome Amongin as representatives.

Speaking before the team’s departure to India, Ariokot, who made her national team debut in June at the Kwibuka Memorial in Rwanda expressed the confidence she exhibits in her teammates ahead of the tournament.
“I’m extremely elated and proud to be out there representing my country. Looking at the team, I think we can go all the way in the competition. We just have to believe in ourselves and do our best.”
The tournament will be played on a T-20 format, but other activities such as art workshops and child-friendly Congress sessions will be conducted.

The Street Child World Cup precedes the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup that happens in October in the same country.
