The Uganda Volleyball Cranes may have to wait for another two years to participate at the Africa Nations Championship.
This is after their participation in the 2023 edition in Egypt, has been cast in doubt after being informed of the unavailability of funds.
Training has been halted and the team will have to meet Uganda Volleyball Federation president Sadick Nasiwu on Saturday, before a decision is taken.
According to reports, the team head coach Protus Soita has actually flown to Rwanda for the East African Secondary School Association (FEASSA) games with Seroma Christian School, suggesting that he does not expect the team to travel to Egypt.
Uganda thought they would better the 2021 showing in Kigali, Rwanda where the team finished fifth, in the continental showdown.
Meanwhile, the Lady Volleyball Cranes were set for a similar fate as government failed to fund them, but well-wishers stepped in to help them travel for the women championship, currently ongoing in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Teams failing to show up for international tournaments has become a recurring theme in the country.
The senior national basketball men’s team, the Silverbacks have recently been denied a chance to participate in the Pre-Olympic qualifiers.
