Twelve named in Uganda Women’s Volleyball Squad for Africa Nations Championship

The Uganda Women’s Volleyball Team has announced its squad for the upcoming Africa Nations Championship, which will be held in Yaounde, Cameroon from 14-25 August.

The team, which is led by head coach Tonny Peter Lakony, includes 12 players:

  • Middle Blocker: Scholastica Akello
  • Libero: Margret Namyalo
  • Receiver Attacker: Eunice Amuron
  • Opposite: Moreen Mwamula
  • Receiver Attacker: Scovia Frances Alungat
  • Middle Blocker: Supernatural Mbakusiimira
  • Opposite: Joan Tushemereirwe
  • Receiver Attacker: Habiba Namale
  • Receiver Attacker: Catherine Ainembabazi
  • Setter: Flavia Umuhlza
  • Middle Blocker: Jennifer Alungat
  • Setter: Naume Auma

Plascon

The team manager is Allen Kagusuru, and Mariam Nakamanya will serve as assistant head coach.

The Uganda Women’s Volleyball Team is looking to build on its recent success, having won the 2021 East Africa Volleyball Championship.

The team is also hoping to qualify for the 2023 World Volleyball Championship.

The Africa Nations Championship is a major tournament for African volleyball teams, and it will be a good test for the Uganda Women’s Volleyball Team.

The team will be leaving for Cameroon on 10 August, and will play its first match on 14 August.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format, and the top four teams will advance to the semifinals.

The Uganda Women’s Volleyball Team is hoping to win the Africa Nations Championship and qualify for the World Volleyball Championship.
