Uganda’s Victoria Pearls finished third after defeating hosts, Rwanda in the 2022 T20 Kwibuka tournament that ended on Sunday.

The two nations were playing the loser’s match after finishing third and fourth on the log. The Victoria Pearls ran out Rwanda with just 50 runs inside the 18th over.

The Pearls were spurred by Consy Aweko and Sarah Akiteng who picked three wickets each. Meanwhile, it’s only Henriette Ishimwe who scored 12 runs off 16 balls the only Rwandese player to score in double figures.

Uganda did not have to sweat too much as they successfully chased the score in just 10 overs to win by eight Wickets.

Openers Kevin Awino (5) and Gloria Abukor (3) fell early, but Janet Mbabazi (15) and Rita Musamali (17) patiently lifted Uganda to the target with about 62 balls to spare.

The Pearls leave the Kwibuka tournament with five wins and two losses which they suffered to Kenya and Tanzania.

For the ultimate glory, Tanzania beat defending champions Kenya by 44 runs to win their second title from as many attempts.

The Kwibuka T20 Tournament is one of the events organised in memory of victims of the 1994 Genocide.
