Ahead of the Victoria Series that bowls off tomorrow at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, UAE captain Chaya Mughal has insisted that her team is here to win the trophy.
Tournament favorites
The Arabian nation are the highest-ranked team among the five competing, and will start the campaign against Kenya which is ranked second last in the Series.
While facing the media in the mandatory captains’ press conference that was held at Nob View Hotel in Ntinda today morning, Mughal said.
“Our aim is very clear, we are here to win and just to show what we are capable of. Girls have a lot of potential and we just want to play our best cricket.”
Mughal is booming with confidence, but her counterparts come into the tournament upbeat as well!
Other teams
Their opening day opponents Kenya through their captain Sharon Juma clapped back saying.
“We just want to display good Cricket, play one game at a time. We want to win all our games, hopefully, make it to the final and take the cup.”
Also, from the land of thousand hills, Rwanda, the least-ranked nation promises to showcase good cricket as well.
“We had a lot of games before coming here, and we saw our weaknesses so we worked hard on them,” said Diane Marie Bimenyimana, the team captain.
Fatuma Omary Kibasu, the Tanzanian captain was unable to communicate to the press due to the language barrier, but her vice Shufaa Mohamedi said; “I hope we come on top and win the tournament.”
For the hosts Uganda, the fact that their first game is against Rwanda is an advantage, team captain Consy Aweko insisted.
“Starting against a lowly ranked team helps you to pick up the momentum of the tournament. It gives you the tempo of the tournament.”
Uganda will face Rwanda tomorrow in the afternoon in what will be the second game of the day and tournament.
