Home Football Women’s Football Crested Cranes WAFCON: Five star Crested Cranes sign off preparations with huge win

In hitting Zambia for five without conceding in Morocco on Tuesday, the Crested Cranes ended their preparations for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on a high note.

A brace from Viola Nambi and a goal apiece for Rita Kivumbi, Fauzia Najjemba, and Fazila Ikwaput ensured that the Uganda female football team comfortably won their final build-up game ahead of the continental showpiece.

“This result has shown how far we have come in terms of preparations,” Cranes head coach George Lutalo said after the game before adding.

“It has been a good game against a strong Zambian team and I appreciate the efforts of my team in this game.”

Part of their preparation was also the CECAFA Women’s Championship which they won at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru earlier this month.

Lutalo’s charges who won the CECAFA trophy for the first time did it in style as hosts as they clinched it unbeaten.

Uganda will be playing at the WAFCON for their second time, the first since 2000 when they failed to go beyond the group stages at a tournament that was held In South Africa.

After a 22-year absence, the Cranes are back and they are pooled in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Senegal.
