The 2023 Nile Special Rugby Premier League has returned with the theme Guts, Grit and Gold.
This year’s edition will be special with the introduction an award for the Most Valuable Player of each match in the form of a plaque and 100,000 shillings in cash.
“We all know what is entailed, these players give everything and put their bodies on the line for the success we all enjoy. Because it takes guts and grit to achieve Gold, we have hyped the activations too.”
Nile Breweries Connections Manager John Paul Semakula told Nnalubaale Sports adding.
“For every game, we know that there will be someone who will be unmatched, someone who will put up more than everyone and that someone who will deserve to be rewarded.”
Nile Breweries Limited last year unveiled a Sh9.8bn sponsorship package to the Uganda Rugby Union for which Sh2.68bn will be committed to the league for three years.
This year’s league with new entrants Walukuba will witness a blend of the known and unknown considering the hunger of each team and level of performance required to stay in the top tier.
“We are truly appreciative to Union and the clubs that put this rugby structure together. And as Nile Breweries we reaffirm our commitment towards the growth of the game,” he concluded.
The Clubs will be getting Shs20m each to prepare for the season as part of the package from Nile Breweries.
“The contract we have with Nile Breweries is incremental, we got Shs600m last year, this year it’s a tune of Shs800m and an extra Shs200m to go to the Clubs,” Union CEO Isaac Lutwama Nsubuga.
