After suffering defeats in their opening matches, the two African sides know another setback could bring an early end to their campaigns.

Algeria face Jordan at the San Francisco Bay Arena in a match both teams simply cannot afford to lose. Jordan opened their campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Austria, while Algeria also stumbled on matchday one, leaving both sides under pressure.

Jordan coach Jamal Sellami remains hopeful his team can bounce back, while Algeria manager Vladimir Petkovic acknowledged the importance of the contest, describing Jordan as a tactically disciplined side.

At MetLife Stadium, Senegal face a must-win clash against Norway in Group I.

The Lions of Teranga began their campaign with a 3-1 loss to France, while Norway eased past Iraq 4-1. Victory for Norway would seal a place in the next round, but Senegal need at least a point to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Pape Thiaw’s side head into the match on a three-game winless run, while Norway are chasing a fourth straight victory.

The Scandinavians will once again look to prolific striker Erling Haaland, whose scoring streak now stands at 11 consecutive matches.

Senegal, however, have received a boost with a fully fit squad available for selection. Teenager Mbaye, who became the youngest African scorer in World Cup history with his goal against France, is pushing for a starting berth after his impressive cameo.

However, Thiaw is expected to keep faith with the attacking trio of Ismaila Sarr, Nicolas Jackson and captain Sadio Mane.

Elsewhere in Group I, France take on Iraq in the day’s early fixture.

All 104 matches of the FIFA World Cup will be broadcast live on DStv across four dedicated channels.
