Defending champions Busoga College Mwiri and Soroti SS became the latest teams to progress to the Super Eight stage of the SkyView Boys Schools Cricket Week following their respective victories in group play on Tuesday.
Holders Busoga College Mwiri defeated Ntare School by 57 runs to secure their place in the Super Eight with a game to spare, becoming the third team to advance.
After electing to bat first, the Nile-region giants posted 149/7, led by Trevor Azikiriza (47 off 28 balls) and captain Ryan Agaba (39 off 35 balls).
With the ball, Trevor Mugaita led the attack, taking four wickets as Mwiri bowled out the Mbarara-based side in 16.5 overs.
Brian Aryatunga gave Ntare a fighting chance with a brisk 35 off 23 balls but lacked adequate support from the rest of the lineup. Ntare suffered two ducks, with Enock Kwezira (18) and Elton Musime (12) being the only other batters to reach double figures.
Despite the setback, Ntare still have a chance to reach the Super Eight if they win their remaining two group matches.
At Kichwamba, Eastern region champions Soroti SS cemented top spot in Group C to join the Super Eight after sealing their third win of the tournament. They defeated hosts Nyakasura School by 45 runs after setting a target of 109.
Nyakasura, who opted to bowl first, began their chase strongly but ultimately succumbed to Soroti’s disciplined bowling attack. Daniel Echweru led the charge with four wickets, bringing his tournament tally to eight.
Shree Sahajanand School Uganda also qualified for the Super Eight with minimal fuss, beating Kasese SS by 5 wickets to complete the group stage with a perfect four wins from four matches.
Kasese won the toss and elected to bat, posting 63/9 in their allotted overs. Shree comfortably chased down the target in 14 overs. The defeat was Kasese’s fourth of the tournament, leaving them winless at the end of the group stage.
