SC Villa skipper Gift Fred made the final Uganda Cranes 23-man team that will take on Algeria in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
With the provisional team stacked with quality central defenders, Gift Fred made the cut, much to a deserved delight.
“I want to thank the Lord for the opportunity I have got to represent my nation,” an overjoyed Fred said before departing for Cameroon on Friday.
“Every player wants to represent their country, and I think it is one of the things that make a player successful.”
It, however, won’t be easy for Fred to hit the starting eleven, as he would have to fend off opposition from the likes of Halid Lwaliwa, Rogers Torach, Kenneth Semakula, and Geoffrey Wasswa among others.
Third-placed Uganda has four points in as many games while Algeria, who are on 12 have already made it through as table-toppers.
Tanzania and Niger, who are the other group opponents are second and fourth on four and three points, respectively.
