In a unlikely move, Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi flagged off seven national team boxers for African Boxing Championships in Maputo, Mozambique.
Under normal circumstances, it would have been National Council of Sports heads as it has been the norm for any national team heading out to represent the nation.
By press time, the local sports governing body, NCS was yet to comment on the situation neither did they react to the team’s travel let it on their social media platforms.
This bad blood is a result of preparation monies which took forever to reach hence the team not having a residential camp ahead of the games.
“It is true, no money yet! We hoped our ring-fenced money would be released by now but up to now nothing,” Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi revealed.
The continental Championship scheduled for 9th-18th September will have seven Bombers in a pursuit for medals.
All the six boxers that represented Uganda at the Commonwealth Games have made the travelling squad with the only addition being Idris Mukiibi.
Joshua Tukamuhebwa will captain the team at the continental event which has Owen Kibira, Isaac Zebra Ssenyange, Yusuf Nkobeza, Jonah Kyobe, Idris Mukiibi and Teddy Nakimuli.
The team departed the country today evening and is expected to land in Mozambique on Friday morning.
