Bombers win two Africa Bronze medals in Maputo

Uganda national boxing team, the Bombers won two Bronze medals at the just concluded 2022 Africa Boxing men and Women championship.

Boxers Yusuf Nkobeza and Jonah Kyobe failed to go past the semifinals stage as they settled for the tail end of the podium to bring home medals.

Uganda, which went to Maputo Mozambique ill prepared because of financial challenges had a numerical disadvantage as they fielded only seven out of the maximum 25.

 

 

“In this competition, we were supposed to field 13 men and 12 women but due to finances we fielded only 7 (6 men and a woman) and out of them we got two medals,”

Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi noted.

He went on adding that countries that fielded full teams, have had chances of claiming more medals as they had more opportunities.

On a bright note, outside the exposure to our boxers, the winners bagged a cash prize of    USD2, 500 each. Gold and Silver had a sum of 10,000 and 5,000 at stake.
