Buwambo United held Black star FC to a 1-1 draw to keep their hopes of securing promotion to the FUFA Big League alive.
In the first leg of the home and away promotional playoffs, the Buganda Region Third Division League champions avoided defeat away from home and now head into the return leg with confidence as they prepare to host Blackstars FC in Buwambo.
The match, played at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Saturday, June 13, saw Blackstars FC take an early lead through the highly-rated Benon Lutaaya. However, promising defensive midfielder Innocent Ongurucho Mensor restored parity for the visitors two minutes before halftime, ensuring the teams went into the break level at 1-1.
Despite a highly contested second half, neither side was able to find a winner. Buwambo United remained disciplined and held on for a result that leaves them in a strong position ahead of the decisive second leg.
The tie will be settled on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Home of Talents Ground in Buwambo, where Patrick Kimuli’s side will look to capitalize on home advantage and secure promotion to the FUFA Big League for the first time in the club’s history.
