- Buwambo United 4-2 Blackstars FC (5-3 aggregate)
Buwambo United secured promotion to the FUFA Big League after defeating Blackstars FC 4-2 in the return leg of the playoff at the YMCA Grounds, completing a 5-3 aggregate victory.
The Buganda Regional League side came into the match after a 1-1 draw in the first leg and wasted no time asserting themselves. Blackstars FC, the Kampala Regional League champions, took an early lead just three minutes into the game through Simon Katumba.
However, Buwambo United responded quickly, with midfield maestro Innocent Ongurucho Mensar leveling the score moments later.
The hosts went on to take control of the contest, with Patrick Wasswa and Abubakar Kalungi finding the back of the net to give Buwambo United a 3-2 lead by halftime. Blackstars FC remained in the contest thanks to Benon Lutaaya, who scored his 24th goal of the campaign.
In the second half, Buwambo United focused on controlling the game and protecting their advantage. Pius Mulema then scored the crucial fourth goal, sealing a 4-2 victory on the day and a 5-3 aggregate triumph.
Promotion means Buwambo United have earned a place in the FUFA Big League, the second tier of Uganda’s football structure. The club will now undergo the required licensing process before receiving official inclusion in the league.
The achievement comes despite challenges off the pitch. Buwambo United struggled to secure a venue for the playoff fixture before eventually finding a home at the YMCA Grounds in Buwambo. The venue is also among the options being considered to host the club’s FUFA Big League matches during the 2026/27 season.
