Butambala became the first team to register a victory in the 2026 Plascon powered Buganda Masaza Cup after defeating Mawogola 1-0 in the Muganzirwazza Group on Saturday, June 20.
New recruit Dathan Mubiru, who joined from Buddu, scored the lone goal that separated the two sides at Kibibi Secondary School as both teams began their 2026 campaign.
The tournament had kicked off a week earlier with a goalless draw between reigning champions Buwekula and Kyadondo at the National Teachers College in Mubende on Saturday, June 13.
Saturday’s action also featured a second match in which Bulemeezi earned an away point after a 1-1 draw with Ssese at Lutoboka Ssaza Ground in the opening game of the Masengere Group.
Raymond Kayemba gave Ssese the lead before Shafick Nyanzi scored for the visiting Bulemeezi side to ensure the teams shared the spoils.
The tournament continues on Sunday, June 21, with several fixtures lined up across different groups.
In the Bulange Group, Buddu will host Buluuli at Kitovu Sports Arena in Masaka, while Busujju will entertain Buvuma at Kakindu Ground.
In the Muganzirwazza Group, Ssingo will host Kabula at Mityana Ssaza Ground, with assistant coach Michael Bukenya coming up against his former employers. Elsewhere, Bugerere will welcome Kooki at Ntenjeru Ssaza Ground.
In the Masengere Group, Mawokota will host Kyagwe in Buwama, while Busiro will play their home game against Gomba at their new home venue, TRICONA.
