The Buganda Masaza Cup Quarterfinals kicked off yesterday, with Gomba securing a convincing 3–0 victory over Buddu at Kabulasoke Stadium in front of a massive crowd.
Drumming, dancing, food vendors, and festive celebrations created a vibrant atmosphere at Kabulasoke Stadium as Gomba comfortably defeated the Kansai Plascon-sponsored Buddu to take a strong early advantage in the opening leg.
Gomba’s goals were scored by Meddie Kasule, Alfred Sebunya, and Hassan Waiswa. The first two goals arrived in the opening half, before Waiswa completed the tally in the second half.
The result sparked wild celebrations among Gomba supporters, who are hopeful their team can go all the way and claim a record sixth Masaza Cup title.
According to Gomba head coach Davis Nono Sozzi, the victory was expected given the intensive preparation the team put in ahead of the clash.
Gomba Team Manager Resty Mbatide Namugema also expressed satisfaction with the victory while calling on supporters and well-wishers to continue backing the team financially as they pursue their title ambitions.
“I would like to thank the fans who turned up in big numbers and the players who put their bodies on the line. However, we have to support the team financially, and I call upon fans and well-wishers to join us so we can clear outstanding bills.”
Gomba will now look to protect and build on this advantage in the return leg as they continue their quest for a sixth Buganda Masaza Cup trophy.
