The Kansai Plascon-powered 2026 Masaza Cup has reached the semifinal stage, with four counties remaining and the first-leg fixtures scheduled for this Sunday.
Butambala has made history by reaching the semifinals after eliminating Busujju, setting up a highly anticipated clash with neighboring Gomba.
Gomba, meanwhile, secured their place in the last four after defeating Buddu and will now host Butambala in the opening leg of what promises to be a closely contested tie.
The meeting at Kabulasoke Core Primary Teachers’ College (PTC) carries extra significance for Butambala, who are chasing their first-ever Masaza Cup title.
Their historic run has already surpassed expectations, but they now face the formidable challenge of overcoming a Gomba side with a proven track record in the tournament.
The other semifinal will see Kyaggwe take on Bugerere, with Kyaggwe hosting the first leg at Bishop Mukono.
Bugerere reached the semifinals for the second consecutive edition after defeating Kyadondo in the quarterfinals. They will be hoping to go one step further this time and secure a place in the final.
Standing in their way is a Kyaggwe side also seeking its maiden Masaza Cup crown. The hosts will look to capitalize on home advantage to build a lead ahead of the return leg.
Of the four semifinalists, Gomba is the only county to have previously lifted the Masaza Cup trophy, leaving Kyaggwe, Bugerere, and Butambala all chasing history as they pursue their first championship.
With two high-stakes encounters set for Sunday, the semifinal stage promises to deliver another thrilling chapter in this year’s competition.
