Olympic Gold medalist, Peruth Chemutai will be keen on winning the 3000m Steeplechase final on Friday night in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Despite underwhelming in the recently concluded Oregon Athletics Championships, the runner will hope for a quick bounce-back for Uganda’s third gold medal in Birmingham.
In Oregon, she finished at 9:05.54 but also, that is way better than any other athlete slated to feature on Friday.
She seeks to emulate Victor Kiplangat and Jacob Kiplimo, who have won the Marathon and the 10,000m race respectively.
Chemutai also looks to be the first Ugandan to win the race since Dorcus Inzikuru in 2006, as she clocked 9:19.51 in Melbourne.
Uganda is also assured at least one other medal by Teddy Nakimuli, who qualified for the boxing semifinals, and is assured of bronze at the worst.
Away from the Steeplechase final, Winnie Nanyondo earlier won her heat to qualify for the 1500m finals.
