In his second year at Lubiri SS, Dan Ssegawa gets Lubiri SS back to glory days after 14 years since their last trophy.
To win the Kampala Region Boys U20 football trophy, Lubiri SS ran unbeaten beating Kibuli SS on penalties 5-3 in the final played at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo on April 14.
In normal play, Lubiri SS were held 0-0 by Kibuli SS who finished with 10 players following the dismissal of Captain Vincent Kasangaki for his foul on Daniel Marual in the 71st minute.
In shootouts, Lubiri SS took the first attempt and captain Marith Abui converted and Goalkeeper Dylan Kasumba saved Kibuli’s first attempt taken by Championship top scorer Richard Lugoloobi.
That save proved enough as seven players for both teams converted their penalties straight until Bony Bazanye scored the winner for Lubiri SS.
Earlier, Marvin Kawuki, Twaha Busolo, and Bony Namiti converted for Lubiri SS while Musa Kironde, Goalkeeper Paddy Ssagye and Med Nsereko scored for Kibuli.
During the shootouts, Kibuli SS head coach Emron Ricoba switched Ssagye for Lugoloobi who had already failed to convert his attempt and also failed to stop any of the two spots he faced.
In the run to become Kampala Region champions dethroning Uganda Martyr’s High School Rubaga whom they beat at the Quarterfinals in the semifinals they stopped Kazo Hill to accomplish the mission they launched with the perfect record set at the group stage.
Lubiri SS’s success rewards their high pressing game led by captain Abui who went on to be named the best player.
Throughout he worked along with Daniel Marual, Bony Namiti, James Ssali and the entire team including goalkeeper Dylan Kasumba.
