2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers | First Leg | Sunday May 4
- Ghana 2-1 Uganda
Agnes Nabukenya’s goal was not enough to give the Queen Cranes a first leg edge as Uganda fell 2-1 to Ghana in the final round of qualification for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
Uganda made a strong start in Accra and took the lead in the 32nd minute. Captain Nabukenya spotted her chance and sent a looping strike over goalkeeper Belinda Maku to put the visitors ahead.
The Queen Cranes stayed organized and disciplined, holding Ghana at bay for the rest of the first half.
But the hosts returned from the break with more energy, making changes that quickly shifted the game.
Ghana equalized in the 56th minute when substitute Priscilla Mensah headed in from a free kick. The pressure grew, and Uganda struggled to regain control.
With five minutes left, another substitute, Latifah Abesik, scored the winner to complete Ghana’s comeback and hand them the advantage.
Uganda now turns focus to the return leg on Saturday at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
