Mt St Henry’s High School have emerged as the biggest surprise of the 2026 Girls Schools Cricket Week, sealing a place in the semi finals after knocking out record champions Jinja SSS in a tense Super Eight encounter on Thursday.

The Mukono based side, playing in their first ever semi final campaign after a wild card entry, edged Jinja SSS by 14 runs to complete a stunning double over the tournament heavyweights.

Defending 66/7, Mt St Henry’s bowled with discipline and courage.

Jackline Nampaamu and Catherine Mbidule led the charge with three wickets each, breaking Jinja’s chase at key moments and keeping the pressure on throughout.

For Jinja SSS, it was a painful exit. Already beaten earlier in the day by Olila HS, they needed a response but instead fell short again, their batting unable to recover after a slow start left them chasing the game too early.

The defeat confirms the end of their campaign, denying the eight time champions a chance to extend their dominance, even with one match left against St John’s SS Mukono.

Mt St Henry’s, meanwhile, have built their run on belief and momentum, also having beaten St John’s earlier in the group stage to secure second place in Group A and a historic semi-final spot.

In Group B, defending champions Light SS stayed unbeaten with a hard earned 6 run win over Masaka SS. Despite a modest 84/9, their bowling unit stepped up again.

Sarah Tino took four wickets, including a standout dismissal of Teddy Naiga for a duck, while Mary Joyce Arugo added three more as Masaka collapsed in 16.4 overs.

Sacred Heart SS also booked their semi-final place after a comfortable nine-wicket win over Masindi SS, chasing 59/7 in just 13.4 overs.

The Gulu side reach the last four for a third straight year under coach Joseph Byaruhunga, continuing their steady rise.

With group action concluding, the semi-final picture is nearly set.

In Group B, Light SS and Sacred Heart SS are battling for top spot among the tournament’s Super 8.

The semi finals will be played on Friday, with the final scheduled for Saturday.
