This Saturday, rugby returns to the Lugogo swamp amidst high anticipation, with reputations and bragging rights more on the line than before.
Dubbed “Kyadondo Is Home,” this weekend’s hosts, Platinum Credit Heathens RFC and Kyadondo, aim to celebrate the successes of the establishment over the years.
It will mark an even more memorable event as one of Kyadondo’s finest, ASBC’s Philip Wokorach, will be in attendance for the Kyadondo 7s.
“The club’s unwavering support and the lessons I learned there (Kyadondo) have been the wind beneath my wings,”
“As I take on new challenges and chase my dreams on foreign soil, I carry with me the spirit of Kyadondo and the indomitable sense of belonging it instilled in me,”
“I am forever grateful for the home that nurtured my passion and shaped my path,” said Philip Wokorach.
Owing to the madness from the Tooro 7s, table leaders KOBs have been drawn in Pool A alongside the hosts; Heathens and the two teams are set to give us the spectacle that will define Day 1 to an extent.
In group A still are the Boks and Rams, who were the only team to defeat the KOBs in Tooro.
Other Groups
The Black Pirates and Toyota Buffaloes will meet for the fifth consecutive time on the 2023 National 7s calendar in Pool D.
The Pirates have a 3-1 lead on the Kyadondo-based side and will be hoping to make it 4. The Pool is completed by Walukuba Babrbairans, who dumped the Pirates out of the Tooro 7s competition in 2022, and the invitational side, the Jaguars.
The Mongers, the most improved team of the year, headline Pool B after their first runner-up award from the Tooro 7s.
They have been bundled with the arrogant outfit from Makerere, Impis, and the Kyadondo and Bweyogerere developmental sides, Stallions and the Sailors, respectively.
In Pool C, the reigning champions Jinja Hippos will start the battle for main cup contention against the ever-improving Rhinos, the Warriors, who are more than glad to have Gabriel Aredo back and Kyambogo.
Kyadondo 7s Pools:
A: Kobs, Rams, Heathens, Boks.
B: Mongers, Impis, Stallions, Sailors.
C: Hippos, Rhinos, Warriors, Kyambogo.
D: Buffaloes, Pirates, Walukuba, Jaguars.
