Fast-rising Ugandan sprinter Tarsis Orogot booked a lane in the Men’s 200m semifinals on Monday night at the Paris Olympic Games.
Orogot powered through the bend and eased through the home stretch to win Heat 2 in a packed-to-capacity Stade de France in a time of 20:32.
From his heat, Mccoy Wanya (Bahamas) and Renan Correa (Brazil) joined him to the semifinals.
It should be remembered that Uganda paint manufacturing giants Kansai Plascon through their “Twaake” (meaning “go and shine”) campaign, gave the Ugandan contingent of 25 athletes a financial boost ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Orogot is the first Ugandan sprinter to make the Olympics since Davis Kamoga at the 1996 Atlanta Games where he won bronze in 400m.
The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, August 7 at 9:02 pm (EAT).
