Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development and Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre (PIBID/BIRDC) have unveiled a UGX 120 million prize purse for the 2026 Olympic Day Tooke Run.

The run will take place on June 20 in Bushenyi District under the theme, “Move, Learn and Discover for Nutrition Care.”
The prize money will be shared across the 21km Half Marathon, 10km Road Race and 5km Fun Run/Walk categories, with an Under-16 race included to encourage and reward young talent.

More than a sporting event, the Tooke Run aims to raise support for Uganda’s team heading to the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, while promoting healthy living and nutrition awareness.
Organisers say the theme reflects the event’s broader purpose.
Participants will move through sport and community engagement, learn about nutrition and the benefits of Tooke products, and discover how Uganda’s banana industry can contribute to healthier communities and better athletic performance.
The run also seeks to raise nutritional support for vulnerable children in the weaning phase, promote the consumption of Tooke products as a sustainable energy source, and create greater visibility for Uganda’s banana value chain.
President Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to grace the event as chief guest.

The activities will not end with the race. An Olympic Week programme from June 22 to 27 will feature Olympic education sessions, nutrition awareness campaigns and community activities promoting healthy lifestyles.
The initiatives form part of a three-year partnership between UOC and PIBID/BIRDC aimed at driving lasting impact in sports development, nutrition and community transformation.
Registration is ongoing at http://register.olympictookerun.com., with participation kits available at UGX 35,000. Organisers have called on the public, partners and stakeholders to take part in an event they believe can help advance nutrition, promote wellness and support Uganda’s young athletes.
