The Uganda Olympic Committee has launched the Olympic Day Tooke Run 2026, setting the tone for a national event that blends sport with a powerful message, live healthy, eat right, move together.

The run, scheduled for June 20 in Bushenyi District, will mark Olympic Day under the theme “Move, Learn and Discover for Nutrition Care.”

It is being organized by the Uganda Olympic Committee in partnership with the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development and the Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre.

But this is a run built around real needs supporting nutrition for vulnerable children, promoting healthier lifestyles, and backing Ugandan athletes on their journey to the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.

It also puts a spotlight on matooke as a reliable energy source, while opening conversations about its value beyond the farm.

Nutrition ambassador Florence Isabirye Muranga says the run is about connecting everyday life to bigger goals, healthier communities, stronger athletes, and better use of what Uganda already produces.

Uganda Olympic Committee president Donald Rukare believes the partnership behind the event shows what sport can do beyond competition.

He points to nutrition as the link essential for performance, but just as important for families and communities.

The run will be followed by an Olympic Week from June 22 to 27, featuring school visits, nutrition talks, and community activities aimed at encouraging healthier living.

A stakeholders’ breakfast held on April 27 helped rally support ahead of the event, as organizers look to deliver something that reaches beyond the track.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected as chief guest, highlighting the national weight behind the initiative.
