The ministry of Gender organized a National Dialogue on Safe, Respectful and survivor-centered workplaces to prevent and respond to sexual and Gender-based violence (SGBV) at Sheraton hotel on Monday 27th April, 2026.
The event was attended by Sports Sector (USPA,Uganda Rugby and Uganda Olympics committee), ministry of Gender, Labour and social Development ( MGLSD), private sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU),United Nations population Fund (UNFPA) and United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of women (UN Women).
With opening remarks from Hon.Dr.Mutuuzo Peace Regis Minister of state for Gender and culture Affairs, the workshop focused on:
Best practices on GBV prevention and response at workplaces, Legal policy and regulatory frameworks on GBV and implementation of the International Labor organization convention No.190 as well as national labour laws and regulations.
Yusrah Najjuma of UN Women emphasized strengthening institutional Safeguards in order to enable swift workplace GBV response and prevention. While Josephine Zhane Omunyidde (UNFPA) called for institutional systems and scalable private sector solutions that would strengthen commitment to investment.
