Uganda Cranes playmaker Allan Okello has been named the Real Star Sports Monthly Football Player of the Month for a second consecutive time after another impressive spell with Tanzanian champions Young Africans.
Okello received the accolade during the June awards ceremony held on July 7 at Nanjing Restaurant in Kololo, following an outstanding month in which he scored three goals and provided one assist in six matches.
The midfielder had also won the May Football Real Star award after producing what many considered the best month of his career.
Since joining Young Africans from Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC in January, Okello has made an immediate impact. He helped the club retain the Tanzania Premier League title and finished the second half of the season with 22 goal involvements, with more than half coming in May and June.
His remarkable form convinced the Real Stars Sports Agency voting panel to once again name him the month’s best footballer.
Besides recognising the outstanding performers in football, rugby, boxing and motorsport, the organisers also paid tribute to the late Sydney Gongodyo.
Gongodyo, who won the Rugby Real Star award in April 2023, featured for Black Pirates Rugby Club and the Uganda Rugby Cranes. He died in early June after reportedly being lynched by a mob in Ntinda over allegations of theft.
His honorary award was presented by Real Stars Sports Agency Chief Executive Officer Isac Mukasa to Black Pirates team manager Isac Kimeze.
