Uganda national women’s Rugby 15s team, the Lady Rugby Cranes, defeated Zambia 36-17 in their opening Pool B game of the Rugby Women Africa Cup.

Uganda had three tries on the scoreboard thanks to Angella Nanyonjo, captain Peace Lekuru and Charlotte Mudoola who added the other points with her boot.

Fly half Mudoola, ended the game with 26 points as she kicked in five penalties and three conversions.

With the biggest crowd for a ladies game, be it local or international, Lady Cranes pushed for a bonus point win at the end but failed as Zambia crossed the chalk thrice to secure a losing bonus point.

Next in the line of fire is Kenya Lioness on the 2nd of November but the Ugali neighbours will have to play Zambia first this Saturday.

The winner of the group will qualify for the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup First Division due next year.
