Uganda U-20 head coach Jackson Mayanja has praised his side’s quick adaptation to his style, ahead of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers.
Barely two weeks back, ‘Mia Mia’ was named Hippos interim head coach, but he feels they are getting to the desired levels as they await to compete in Sudan.
“We have shaped the team in such a way that they can gel perfectly with the kind of style of play we want,” the tactician said to the media on Monday.
“The good thing is the players are disciplined, willing to learn and are behaving like professionals, and this is what I communicated on the first day,” Mayanja observed.
“We have to take this direction where they are always on time for lunch, training and so many other things on and off the pitch.”
The 2021 U-20 AFCON finalists were pitted in Group B along with rivals Tanzania and Ethiopia, for the tournament set to kickoff on October 28.
“Its a tough group as matches against Tanzania and Ethiopia at whatever levels are more or less, derbies,” said Mayanja.
Uganda will open their journey against Tanzania on October 29th at the Al Hilal Stadium, and later play Ethiopia on November 5th.
“We want to capitalize on Tanzania’s weaknesses. We know they love kicking away the ball and are physical, so we’re preparing the boys for that.”
After the knockout rounds, the final will take center stage on November 11, with three teams expected to represent the region on the continent.
