The Stanbic Black Pirates saw off KOBs in tremendous style, winning 23-07 at Legends Rugby Grounds, to be crowned the new Uganda Nile Special Rugby Premiership Champions.

In a winner-takes-all affair, the Pirates came out on top counting two converted tries, three penalties against KOBs consolation converted try.

The Bweyogerere based Pirates had a perfect first half with Captain Ivan Magomu pointing for poles and going for points on three occasions, and scoring on three penalties.

The KOBs were kept out of the Pirates side of the field for the better part of the first half, but managed to get a penalty which was fluffed wide. The first half would end 9-0 in favor of the visitors.

Pirates continued their fine form in the second when a perfect backline move ended up in Odongo‘s hands who would score to push the lead further. Magomu stayed perfect from the tee.

Attention was not KOBs strongest trait on the day as Desire Ayera raced and latched onto a kick to dot down in the corner for Pirates second try of the game.

Magomu maintained his excellence with the boot, and pushed the Pirates’ lead to 23-00.

With the celebrations well underway and attention turned away from the game, KOBs got in a consolation try through the brilliant Karim Arinaitwe.

KOBs would convert but it was too little too late, as the Stanbic Black Pirates won 23-07 and were crowned 2023 Champions.
