Prisons Netball Club Crowned 2023 Super League Champions

Champions Prisons Netball Club was crowned the 2023 Netball Super League champions during a glittering awards ceremony held on Thursday evening at Climax Hotel in Makindye.

The event was graced by players, coaches, and various members of the Uganda Netball community who came together to celebrate the outstanding skills, determination, and teamwork exhibited by Prisons throughout the season.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious championship trophy, a moment that filled players and coaches with immense pride as they rightfully received recognition for their exceptional performance.

Prisons emerged victorious with a final score of 46-41 against KCCA at Kamokya TLC on the last day of the season, securing their fourth Netball Super League title.

This remarkable achievement follows their previous triumphs in 2009, 2017, and 2018.

The coveted championship trophy was officially handed over to Prisons by David Okiring, PRRO (Sports) at Prisons Headquarters, representing the Commissioner General of Prisons.

The celebrations didn’t stop there. UGISA, the champions of Division two, and WOB, winners of the Men’s Division, were also awarded their well-deserved titles, making the evening a true showcase of netball talent in Uganda.

What the Netball Federation said

Acting President of the Uganda Netball Federation, Brig. Gen. Flavia Byekwaso, emphasized the importance of the event as a marketing tool to raise awareness about the league and the federation’s activities.

She expressed gratitude to all the winners for their efforts and encouraged all teams to return stronger and ensure a competitive season in the future.

Looking ahead, the new season of the Uganda Netball Super League is set to kick off on October 27th, pending the release of fixtures.

Byekwaso also expressed hope for continued sponsorship support to ensure the success of the league.

In her closing remarks, Byekwaso urged players and coaches to remain focused on the game of netball and steer clear of the ongoing political distractions, setting the stage for another thrilling season of netball in Uganda.
