If you’re a fan of Ugandan table tennis, you should be familiar with the name Sir Joseph Sebatindira. This 9-year-old continues to prove that he is indeed the future of table tennis in Uganda.
It has become a certainty that each time this prodigy walks onto the court, it is bliss for Ugandans.
On Tuesday at the World Table Tennis Youth Championships ongoing in Doha, Qatar, Sebatindira added yet another medal to his cabinet.
The youngster beat local star Abdalaziz Al Abdulla 3-1 in the final of the U13 Boys Singles to scoop Gold.
Sebatindira garnered 44 points including 20 he won on his opponent’s serve. As compared to his opponent’s 20, Sebatindira lost only 17 on his serve and had four great deficit comebacks in a final that spanned 24 minutes.
Given their huge difference in ranking, Sebatindira 861 and Abdalaziz 480, and the latter’s home support, Sebatindira had been the underdog, but that counted less as the Ugandan powered to a comfortable win.
Sebatindira will now turn attention to the U11 Boys Singles that start on Wednesday. The Ugandan is placed in Group 2 alongside Saudi Arabian Ahmed Alkalaf and two locals including Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti and Mubarak Al-Qutaiti.
He will start the defence of this title against the former. Sebatindira won this title last year in Cairo, Egypt, becoming the first Ugandan to ever do so. He will be seeking nothing but to retain it.
