The Inter Hub U18 Girls Cricket Invitational Tournament that lasted a week in Gulu ended over the weekend with Soroti Cricket Academy-A emerging champions.
The side in a final involving their sister club Soroti Cricket Academy-B won the game by 8 runs to crown a perfect week with the trophy.
The tournament that had Batball Uganda as partners featured five teams from across the country. The aforementioned Soroti teams, East Enders from Jinja, Northerns Cricket Hub and Mukono Cricket Community were the teams that took part in this competition.
East Enders that was dominated by girls from Jinja SS took the third spot. The side beat Mukono by 10 wickets in the third place Playoff to take that position.
Soroti A won the trophy, but their B side took most of the awards. Michelle Ariago (Best Bowler), Blessing Noeline Apio (Best Fielder), Susan Akidi (Best Wicketkeeper) were all individual winners.
The overall winner however, was Soroti A’s Patricia Timong. She was named the tournament MVP. Naume Mbwali from Mukono Cricket Community scooped the Best Batter award with her 117 runs.
The tournament was a one of a kind. Grace Mutyagaba, UCA’s Development Officer northern region upon conclusion of the tournament said;
“We’ve successfully organized the first edition, providing a platform to showcase the ongoing efforts of all the Cricket Hubs in Uganda for UCA.”
“Looking ahead, we’re aiming for an even bigger event next year to amplify opportunities for young talents. Additionally, the tournament serves as valuable preparation for the U19 Women’s national team, who are gearing up for a crucial qualifier event in August in Kigali.”
