It is now down to four teams with two one-time champions Impis and Pirates through, 6-time winners KOBs and record winners Heathens.
The Impis saw off a stubborn Barbarians outfit rallying from 07-12 down to win 14-12 despite going down to 5 men. The returning Luhoni Jonathan and engine Kennedy Muhumuza were the stars that lit the Impis to victory.
2018 National Sevens champions Black Pirates made easy work of the Buffaloes to win 35-00 and advance to the semis. Nkore and Wanyama were in perfect unison to quash any Buffaloes’ hopes of advancement.
Karim Arinaitwe proved the decisive scorer as the 2021 Champions KOBs leapt past hosts Jinja Hippos. Pius Ogena had put the KOBs ahead before the break but the grit and fight of the Hippos saw John Eceru score to level matters and provide some malaria; before African champion Karim Arinaitwe put the matter to bed.
Returning to the core status, Rhinos proved a hard nut for Heathens to crack, attaining a 12-07 lead before Half time. The brilliance of Aaron Ofoywroth and Lawrence Ssebuliba came to the forefront in the second half as they each scored a try to send the Heathens to the semis.
The Impis will be entertaining Pirates, while the KOBs will be renewing Lions Cup rivalries with Heathens in the Semifinals.
