Uganda’s national side won two gold medals at the Oceans Blue Beach Tennis BT10 series hosted at Buntwani Waterfront Park Malindi, Kenya.

The two-day tournament had Jonathan Mugisha and Simon Ayella (Men) plus Judith Nalukwago and Patience Athieno (Women) as the Pearl of Africa’s representatives.

The winning charm was with the ladies who won both legs beating Madhieu Adhu and Faith Urasa of Kenya 7-5/6-3 in leg first before defeating Changawa Shufaa and Chepkemei Yego Stacy again of Kenya 6-2/6-2 in the second leg.

Despite accumulating valuable points, the male pair was beaten in the semifinals of both legs by the winning pair of top seeds Mohammad Fazal Khan and Navas Borja.

It should be noted that this event provides an opportunity to obtain ranking points in preparation for the Africa Beach Games in Hammamet Tunisia, and the ANOCA games in Bali, Indonesia in June and August respectively.

Uganda Tennis Association joined the ITF Beach Tennis program in 2020 after receiving a grant from the ITF for equipment and the success stories are a prophecy of a bright future.

The first Beach Tennis event Uganda competed in was in Mpumalanga, South Africa back in May 2021 at the Africa World Beach Tennis Qualifiers. Jonathan Mugisha, Moses Bashaasha, Patience Athieno, and Sandra Khissa made up the team.
