The National Council of Sports (NCS) has today officially flagged off Team Uganda ahead of the 2026 Africa Under-18 Hockey Cup, scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 6–8 August 2026.
The flag-off ceremony was presided over by Ms. Ann Nankya (Senior Sports Officer), representing the General Secretary of the National Council of Sports.
The Ugandan contingent departs for Nairobi on 4 August 2026 to compete against Africa’s finest young hockey talent in a championship that also serves as the African qualification tournament for the inaugural FIH Hockey5s U18 World Cup.
Qualification for the World Cup would mark a significant achievement for Uganda’s emerging hockey stars and further demonstrate the country’s growing stature in youth hockey.
Comprising 20 student-athletes (10 boys and 10 girls) selected from leading secondary schools across Uganda, Team Uganda is supported by an experienced group of coaches, managers, medical personnel, technical officials, and administrators.
The delegation reflects the Uganda Hockey Association’s continued commitment to developing youth hockey and creating sustainable pathways to elite international competition.
Leading the teams on the field will be Daniel Alvin Kinyera (City High School) and Phionah Amaro (Kakungulu Memorial School), who have been appointed captains of the boys’ and girls’ teams, respectively. They will be assisted by Allan Masayi (Namilyango College) and Sylvia Ajok (Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga) as vice-captains.
During the flag-off ceremony, Ms. Nankya officially handed over the National Flag to the contingent and encouraged the athletes and officials to represent Uganda with discipline, determination, and patriotism as worthy ambassadors of the nation.
