  • Kitara FC 0-0 Vipers SC

Kitara and Vipers played out a goalless draw in the first leg of their Plascon co-sponsored Uganda Cup semifinal, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of the return match.

At Royal Park, Butema in Hoima on Sunday, both sides had moments but lacked the finishing touch.

Kitara started brightly. Patrick Henry Kaddu tested Denis Kiggundu from range inside five minutes, but the Vipers goalkeeper was equal to it.

Kiggundu remained sharp, later denying Gaddafi Wahabu Sibira’s low drive on the half-hour mark.

Vipers suffered a setback just before halftime when captain Milton Karisa was stretchered off after a heavy challenge from Jasper Aheebwa. Joseph Marvin Youngman came on in his place.

After the break, Vipers looked for a spark, introducing Mohammed Shaban early in the second half.

Their best chance fell to Yunus Sentamu, whose effort from a tight angle was saved by Meddie Kibirige.

Changes followed as Vipers brought on Kevin DaSylva and Gusto Mulongo, while Derrick Ndahiiro was booked for a foul on Senoga.

Kitara also turned to their bench, with Frank Tumwesigye and Living Kabon adding fresh energy.

Kabon came closest to breaking the deadlock, but Kiggundu produced two key saves, tipping over a powerful shot and later stopping a free-kick.

Vipers made a late change, introducing Odili Chukwuma, but neither side could find a winner.

The tie now shifts to St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, where a place in the final will be decided.

In the other semifinal, URA face SC Villa in the first leg at Nakivubo on Monday.
