Uganda Volleyball Lady Cranes storm quarterfinals after thrashing Burkina Faso

Uganda Volleyball Lady Cranes hit the quarterfinals of the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championships after an astounding 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Sunday.

The Cranes were coming off the back of two straight defeats to neighbors Kenya and Rwanda, but were at their ruthless best against the West Africans in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The team, under head coach Tonny Lakony, got into early groove to assume set one 25-14 and they didn’t look back.

The second set was even more commanding as they took it 25-12, before mastering a 25-18 lead in the third set.

The impressive show was a combination of a clinical setting and offence as well as a determined defensive display.

The victory marked their third at the tournament, with two defeats in five matches.

Reaching the quarterfinals ensured that Uganda has assumed their best ever finish at the continental showpiece. The previous best was ninth in 2009.
