The Uganda Ludo Federation (ULF) released its player rankings for the First, Second, Third, and Women’s classes on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
Matovu Huzaifah topped the rankings, followed by Beth Nadagya. Huzaifa competed in 8 competitions, while Nadagya participated in 10.
Matovu Huzaifah
- In 2019, he helped Kings Ludo Club to a fourth-place finish in the Uganda National Ludo Super League.
- He won the top scorer award for the season with 43 goals.
- Placed second in the 19th Individual Ludo Championship.
- In 2021, he was named captain of the Uganda Doves national team, which went on to win the Africa Ludo Cup of Nations (AL-CON) in South Africa.
- Matovu defeated the top-seeded player in South Africa and Africa, Thabang Mokalapa, to win the AL-CON tournament.
- He also helped his club Masaka Giants qualify for the 2021 Africa Ludo Club Championship.
- Matovu was instrumental in recruiting Masaka Giants to the UNSL, and he was named MVP after his magnificent performances in the league.
- In 2022, Matovu captained Masaka Giants to a runner-up finish in the UNSL. Nansana Galaxy won the league on goal differential.
- Matovu’s leadership was crucial to the Uganda Doves’ success in winning the World Cup in Dubai and Nepal. The Uganda Doves made their debut at the competition.
Beth Nadagya
- In 2019, Nadagya helped Kawempe Club win the Women’s League.
- In 2021, she joined Nansana Galaxy and was named the female MVP after a stellar performance. She also helped the team win the Africa Club Championship in Dubai.
- Nadagya was unplayable in the qualifiers of the 2021 Africa Club Ludo Championship.
- She was a member of the Uganda Doves team that won the AL-CON, and she was also voted the female MVP of the competition.
- In 2022, Nadagya was a member of the Uganda Doves squad that competed in and ultimately won the 2022 Ludo World Cup. She was chosen as the overall MVP after her outstanding efforts.
- Nadagya also contributed to Nansana Galaxy’s National Ludo Super League championship that same year.
The names of those in the first class category will be submitted to the Africa Ludo Federation (ALF) together with those of players from other African nations in order to rank the top player in Africa.
The International Ludo Federation (ILF) will receive the names of the 10 players who qualified for the First Class category at the African level, and they will be competing for a seat on the international team.
“I have a lot of hope and I strongly believe that players from Uganda will take the top spots following the spectacular performances at the recent events,” said Hussein Kalule, the President of the ULF and ALF.
