Jannon Otto, Flavia Kusiima, Arnold Atukunda, Fazila Ikwaput, Yasin Nasser/Ali Katumba, and Sarah Nazziwa were among the Ugandan sports stars who won big at the Real Star Sports monthly awards for July.
Otto, a forward for the Uganda Gazelles, was named the finest basketballer last month after a stellar performance at the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Kigali, Rwanda.
She was named the best forward and the tournament top scorer after managing 128 points in six games.
Otto was overall, a pillar as the Gazelles finished a decent seventh position, which is the best position ever for the team at the stage.
Kusiima, a draught player, won six medals in Zambia during the third African draughts 64 championship and world cup event. She was named the sport’s best in July.
Atukunda, a winger for Pirates Rugby Club, was named the finest player for July after guiding his side to two National Sevens circuit wins of Stone City in Jinja and Kitgum Sevens.
Ikwaput, a striker for the Crested Cranes, was named football’s best in July for her starring role as Uganda edged Rwanda in the first round of the Olympic qualifiers.
Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba, a rally driving duo, were named the best in the sport for July after winning the 2023 Eastern Motor Club-EMC rally.
Nazziwa, a para badminton player, won two bronze medals at the Uganda International Para Badminton in Lugogo. She was also named the best in the sport for July.
The Real Star Sports monthly awards are a way to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of Ugandan sports stars.
