  • Entebbe UPPC FC 2-0 UPDF FC

Issa Bugembe and Muhammed Kyeyune scored in either half as Entebbe UPPC beat UPDF 2-0 in the Uganda Premier League on Thursday at the Fisheries Training Institute playground in Bugonga.

After a delayed kick-off on a sunny afternoon, the Printers made the perfect start.

Bugembe fired the hosts ahead in the third minute with a powerful finish past goalkeeper Richard Anyama.

The early goal lifted Entebbe UPPC, who controlled much of the opening half.

Julius Poloto nearly created a second in the 10th minute, but defender Edward Satulo cleared before Noordin Bunjo could tap home.

UPDF slowly grew into the game. Enrique Lubwama had an effort blocked before skipper Joseph Janjali blasted the rebound over the bar.

Bunjo remained lively for the hosts and later beat the offside trap, only for Anyama to gather his low cross.

Ivan Bogere’s long range effort flew over for the visitors before Ambrose Kigozi failed to connect with a dangerous counterattack led by John Kokas Alou.

Bugembe continued to trouble the UPDF defence and came close again before halftime with a left-footed strike that missed the target.

UPDF returned stronger after the break and pushed for an equaliser.

Emmanuel Ochen forced a save from Denis Otim, while Bogere tested the Entebbe UPPC goalkeeper again midway through the half.

But the hosts still looked dangerous going forward. Bugembe almost doubled the lead with 20 minutes left, striking the post from a tight angle.

Substitute Muhammed Kyeyune eventually sealed the win late on.

After Satulo was booked for a foul near the edge of the area, Kyeyune drilled a low free kick into the net with two minutes remaining.

The match ended in ugly scenes as UPDF officials confronted match officials over alleged biased officiation.

The victory was Entebbe UPPC’s 13th of the season and moved them to sixth place with 46 points.

UPDF remain close to the relegation zone with 21 points after suffering their 16th defeat in 27 matches.
