2025/26 Uganda Premier League | Tuesday, May 12 | MD 28

  • Police FC 0-0 Vipers SC

The Uganda Premier League title race has burst back to life after Vipers SC were held to a third straight draw, settling for a goalless result against Police FC at the Police Arena on Tuesday.

For weeks, Vipers looked certain to cruise to the title. Now, nerves are beginning to show.

The Venoms have won only two of their last six matches and Tuesday’s stalemate marked their 10th draw of the season.

Their lead at the top remains six points, but rivals KCCA FC and Kitara FC suddenly have reason to believe again.

Vipers started brightly and almost found an early breakthrough through Watambala, who won a free kick in the opening minutes, but the delivery failed to trouble Police.

The visitors controlled much of the first half without creating many clear chances, while Police stayed compact and looked dangerous on the counterattack.

One promising move in the 35th minute exposed uncertainty in the Vipers defence before the hosts lost composure in the final touch.

The game came alive after the break, Beyuku struck the crossbar for Vipers in the 46th minute before Watambala’s follow up effort was cleared away. Moments later, the visitors thought they had finally found the winner.

Usama hit the bar from a free kick and Enock Ssebagala headed in the rebound, only for the assistant referee to rule the goal out for offside after judging Taddeo Lwanga had interfered with play.

That proved to be the closest Vipers came, Coach Ivan Minnaert turned to Yunus Sentamu and Gusto Mulongo from the bench, but Police remained disciplined and frustrated the league leaders until the final whistle.

Police midfielder Rayn Figo delivered an outstanding performance and was deservedly named Man of the Match.

Ryan Figo Kizito.

The result leaves Vipers top with 61 points and no room for further mistakes with only two matches left.

They next visit Maroons FC before hosting Express FC on the final day.

Police stay seventh on 45 points and will face Entebbe UPPC before ending the season away to Kitara.

Elsewhere, BUL FC drew 0-0 with Lugazi FC, Maroons FC 0-0 Entebbe UPPC while URA FC played out a 1-1 draw against Calvary FC.

Later at 8pm, Express FC will host Kitara at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
