Calvary FC boosted their survival hopes with a valuable 1-1 draw against URA FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Tuesday evening, keeping pressure on UPDF FC in the relegation battle.
Despite their match starting later than the other Uganda Premier League fixtures, Calvary knew a result was needed.
They delivered one away from home and now sit four points behind 14th placed UPDF (who are in their reach), and still have a game in hand against KCCA FC.
URA started strongly and took the lead in the 27th minute when Ronald Otti who scored in his second consecutive match headed in Disan Galiwango’s corner.
The hosts looked comfortable, but Calvary responded before halftime. On form Lawrence Olaboro equalised in the 40th minute after being set up by Junior Emmanuel Ojok to send the sides into the break level.
The second half was open, with both teams creating chances but failing to find a winner.
Daniel Opio missed a good chance for Calvary, while URA nearly restored their lead when substitute Godfrey Ssekibengo forced a close range save.

Later, Norman Namanya wasted URA’s best late opportunity with a first time volley off target.
Tension rose late in the game when URA official Godfrey Ndugga was sent away from the technical area after repeatedly confronting the match officials.
Calvary held on for a point that could prove important in their fight to stay up.
The result leaves URA safe from relegation, while Calvary’s attention now turns to a crucial meeting with UPDF in Bombo before ending the season at home against NEC FC.
URA will next host title hunting KCCA in a battle of pride after knocking them out of the Uganda Cup on penalties before ending their campaign away to Buhimba United Saints.
Elsewhere, BUL FC drew 0-0 with Lugazi FC, Maroons FC shared a goalless draw with Entebbe UPPC, while Police FC held Vipers SC to a 0-0 draw.
Later at 8pm, Express FC will host Kitara at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
