Allan Okello’s move to Tanzania could hardly have gone any better. Six months after leaving Vipers SC, the Ugandan midfielder has collected a second league winners’ medal this season after helping Young Africans (Yanga) retain the Tanzania NBC Premier League title.

Okello started the 2025/26 campaign at Vipers before completing a January switch to Yanga. Having contributed to Vipers’ successful Uganda Premier League title charge in the first half of the season, he crossed the border and quickly became one of the driving forces behind Yanga’s fifth consecutive league crown.

His impact was immediate. Despite featuring in only 23 league matches, Okello scored 14 goals and provided six assists, establishing himself among the league’s standout performers. He finished the campaign just three goals behind top scorer Mossi Nduwumwe of Singida Black Stars and one behind Azam midfielder Feisal Salum.

Yanga wrapped up the title in style with a commanding 3-0 victory over JKT Tanzania at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium on Tuesday.

Prince Dube broke the deadlock after just eight minutes to give Yanga a deserved halftime lead before JKT’s task became even tougher when Hassan Wahabi was sent off for a reckless challenge.

Six minutes into the second half, Okello again showed his quality, setting up Maxi Nzengeli to double Yanga’s advantage before Clement “Depu” Mzize sealed the victory with the third goal.

The win saw Yanga finish the season on 75 points from 30 matches, narrowly ahead of rivals Simba on 73, while Azam finished third with 64 points.

On Okello’s side, it was the perfect ending to an outstanding season, leaving Uganda as a title contender with Vipers and finished it as a champion in Tanzania, proving his quality on both sides of the border.
