  • Express FC 3-2 Kitara FC

Kitara FC watched their Uganda Premier League title hopes disappear on Tuesday night after falling 3-2 to Express FC at Hamz Stadium.

With leaders Vipers SC dropping points earlier in the day, Kitara had the chance to close the gap in the title race. Instead, a poor first half left them with too much work to do.

Express started brightly and took the lead after 14 minutes when Mikidad Ssenyonga calmly finished Vincent Adriko’s pass into the far corner.

Marvin Nyanzi during the match.

Kitara tried to respond through Doka and Kabon Living, but Khassim Hafizi kept Express in control with a series of saves.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 27th minute through Kenneth Kimera, whose long range strike beat Saleh Azizi.

Three minutes later, Henry Wamala added a third with a composed finish as Express tore through Kitara’s defence.

Kitara pulled one back in the 33rd minute to stay alive before taking control after halftime. The visitors spent most of the second half in the Express half, searching for a way back into the match.

Kabon saw an effort blocked from a corner while Ssenoga forced Hafizi into a fine double save from distance.

The pressure finally paid off in the 84th minute when Jimmy Kalema powered home a header to make it 3-2 and set up a nervy ending.

Kitara pushed forward in the closing minutes, but Express held on to secure an important victory.

The defeat leaves Kitara third on 54 points, seven behind Vipers, ending their title hopes with two matches left.

Their attention now turns to the race for second place, with KCCA FC facing UPDF FC on Wednesday.

Express move up to ninth on 36 points ahead of matches against Lugazi FC and Vipers.

Uganda Premier League action continues on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, with three matches on the card.

Mbarara City FC will host SC Villa at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge at 4pm, while UPDF FC take on KCCA FC at the Military Barracks Ground in Bombo at the same time.
